Hip to be square.

This week’s challenge at CAS-ual Friday really peaked my interest. The challenge is to make a card based on a song title or lyrics, how fun! So, I started going through my stamp sets to find something that brought a song to mind. It didn’t take long for me to find the Rock the Block set that I haven’t gotten around to using very much…. OK, I haven’t used it at all until now. The “it’s hip to be square” stamp sounded like a song title to me, I just couldn’t place it. Google to the rescue! Huey Lewis & the News from 1986.

So here’s my card based on the song.

The rock the block set has some awesome “retro” looking flowers and images. This card was really fun to make! I used White Daisy cardstock and a bit of the Dotty for You paper packet that is the National Scrapbooking Month special coming up in April. These papers are really cute, you won’t want to miss out on this amazing deal! The ink colors used are Lagoon, Sunset and Honey and I added a few Sparkles from the blue/green assortment.

Enjoy the rest of your Saturday!

Bold & Beautiful

This week at CAS-ual Friday the challenge is to create a bold and beautiful design using black and pastels. I have seen 2 card designs recently that really grabbed my eye and decided (actually I woke up at 3 am with the idea Smile) to combine the two for this challenge.

These are the 2 inspiration cards. The first is by fellow Close to my Heart consultant, Michelle Johns. I just love all of the tiny flowers cut with the Art Philosophy Cricut cartridge. The second is one that I found on Pinterest when looking for masculine card ideas. Love the clean and simple design!

Here is my creation combining these 2 designs.

I used Crystal Blue, Buttercup, Blush and Sweet Leaf cardstock to make the flowers. Then placed them on a black panel on a White Daisy card base and added Bitty Opaques pearl gems to the flower centers. I heat embossed the sentiment from the Card Chatter Birthday stamp set with white embossing powder.

Thanks for stopping by. I’d love to hear your comments and have you become a follower!

Another Pinterest inspiration

Once again, I’ve been inspired by the amazing creativity found on Pinterest. I loved this idea of a “blanket” layout so much that I had to adapt it a bit for my new little granddaughter. Isn’t she beautiful? I changed the orientation of the squares, added a lace “binding” to the blanket and generally made it “girly”. I used all Close To My Heart papers from the Lucy collection, and stamped one of the patterns using the Love Life stamp set. Hand stitching and faux stitching, were done using the CTMH ruler and piercing tool. The roses were made with the Art Philosophy Cricut cartridge. I had the photo (taken by my friend Shannon Grimm) printed as an 8”x12” and trimmed it to fit the layout. The journaling is printed on velum and attached over the photo. I just love how this turned out!DSC06365

It’s still Monday on the west coast….

and as promised, here is my Mojo Monday submission (I did cross my heart after all).

Mondays are crazy fun days at my house. 3 round trip drives to deliver and pick up my 2 older grandsons at school. Today there were 2 trips to the library and one to the grocery store, homework, play time, dinner prep. and getting to spend the evening having dinner with my family all here. Monday night dinner together has become a tradition in recent years and I love all the chaos and love that we share. After everything calmed down tonight I was able to get in my craft room to make this card.

All products used are from Close To My Heart:

Crème Brulee Cardstock

Colonial White Cardstock
